Welcome

Hello to our November missionaries.
Welcome to NOM!

Uncle Doug

My Uncle Doug passed away in November.
He was a dear man and a very positive influence in my life.
I always thought he was terribly handsome
and so kind to everyone,
even to his funny little niece
who got homesick every time she came
to spend the week in the summer time.
I remember him as a fairly young man,
younger then I am now.
Sometime during my BYU years he and Auntie Fern
moved from California to be with
their kids in Idaho
and I seldom saw them after that.
The last time I saw him was by chance at a temple in Utah.
He was still his fun, handsome self
but much older and in a wheelchair.
It's hard to believe that he is gone.
The world has lost a very good man.

Trail Center Housekeeping

The sister spent a day in service,
cleaning the Trail Center,
top to bottom.

They did an amazing job!
Thank you, sisters.

That's My Boy

Role Play

In this specialized training
we practiced initial contacting of referrals,
which is often done on the phone.

Practice and more practice.
As President Kunz often says:
"practice makes permanent".

Also lots of hugs...

and pretty duets at lunch time.
All part of the fun.

Introducing the wonderful sisters who made lunch for us.
Oh, how we appreciate them!

A song of their choice as a thank you.

There is nothing in all the world
like the sound of missionaries singing!
This is all just too much fun and we love every minute!

Life

Matthew earned his Life Scout Award!

He is determined to be the one and only
Kunz kid to get his Eagle before
he turns 17.99 years old.

We are very proud of Matthew's progress.
Way to go,  Matt!!!

Halloween

We had the Burtons over again to eat our ghoulish fare
but I forgot to take pictures...
so here is a little left-over vulture
eating the last of the goodies.

Happy Birthday, Sarah, via SKYPE

Being far away from loved ones is a whole lot easier
with SKYPE.
Sarah celebrated her 21st birthday with all her siblings
at David and Hailey's house
and we got to watch the whole thing on the computer.
Oh the joys of modern technology!

Never as good as being there but
better than nothing!
Happy Birthday to our wonderful Sarah.
You are a joy and a delight
and we love you so, so, so, so much.

New Sister Training

The new Trail Center Sisters are given a marvelous training
by the experienced Sisters on everything they will be asked to do
while serving here.
They learn how to find specific graves in the cemetary

using  a map and a counter that marks off the area
between coordinates.

They learn wonderful pioneer stories to share with the guests,

in addition to giving an informative
and spiritual tour in the center.

Related!

Elder Heyborne, who recently finished his mission,
discovered that he was related to Amy Porter,
who's tiny gravestone he stands next to
in the Winter Quarters Trail Center.
This wonderful pioneer woman's final desire
before her death was that her posterity remain faithful
and that through them would come
generations of righteousness.
What an incredible fulfillment of that desire
to have Elder Heyborne serve so honorably
in the very spot where Amy was buried.

Whip Cream Pie

We attended a very unique Scout Fund Raiser:
members of the ward could purchase votes to have a pie
thrown in the face of someone they knew and loved...
the three with the most points got a pie in the face.
Well, our Matthew rated third in that contest and hence
...here he sits.
Then to make more money,
they bid on who would actually throw the pie.
Of course while all this was taking place,
there were other things going on:
a dinner, a service auction,
and great items to bid on,
(I got a lovely set of dish towels
hand embroidered by a dear woman in the ward).
But...
back to the pies...
(which was by far the hit of the night).
Here it is...

Anticipation...

Whop!

Smear it in really well.

Hey, not bad!

Scout camp all paid for!
